Technological innovation and the circular economy have established themselves as two fundamental pillars for the development of companies, institutions, and projects committed to sustainability. In this context, IN DIEM Abogados attended the Summit on Technological Innovation and the Circular Economy, held in Madrid in July 2018.
The event brought together institutional representatives, international leaders, and experts in economics, sustainability, and innovation, as well as companies and professionals interested in the transition to more responsible and efficient production models.

- And many more…
The purpose of the meeting was to raise public awareness of how the circular economy and innovation can provide competitive advantages for companies, institutions, entrepreneurs, and the country as a whole, thereby promoting a faster and more efficient transition toward a sustainable economic model in Spain.
According to information released by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, more than 1,500 people participated in the First Summit on Technological Innovation and the Circular Economy, designed to raise awareness about the benefits of this new economic model and create a national network of civic activists for the circular economy.
Topics Discussed During the Summit
The topics discussed were:
- The circular economy as a means of promoting and fostering innovation in business.
- The circular economy as a means of reducing unemployment and improving economic productivity.
- Scientific innovation and better resource management.
- Measures by the Government of Spain, the European Union, and the private sector to drive the circular economy.
These pillars reflect the importance of integrating sustainability into economic activity—not only as an environmental issue, but also as a factor in competitiveness, efficiency, and business adaptability.
The circular economy aims to move toward models in which resources are better utilized, waste is reduced, and production processes incorporate principles of responsibility, innovation, and efficiency. For companies and institutions, this approach may require organizational, technological, contractual, and strategic changes.
Circular Economy, Business, and Innovation
The relationship between the circular economy and innovation is particularly relevant for companies seeking to adapt to new models of production, consumption, and resource management. Sustainability is no longer an issue separate from the company; rather, it has become an integral part of its strategic planning.
In these types of processes, companies may need to review their contracts, their relationships with suppliers, their internal policies, their financing models, their regulatory compliance systems, and their approach to risk management.
Technological innovation also plays a central role, as it enables the development of more efficient solutions, improves internal processes, optimizes resources, and creates new business opportunities in sectors related to sustainability, digitalization, and business transformation.
The Role of Legal Advice in Business Transformation
Transformation processes related to sustainability, the circular economy, and technological innovation can have legal implications in various areas of a company. Adapting to new economic models requires planning, risk analysis, and appropriate legal structuring.
From a legal perspective, it is important to assess issues such as commercial contracts, corporate liability, regulatory compliance, project financing, asset protection, strategic alliances, and relationships with public authorities or private entities.
For this reason, legal advice can provide certainty and foresight for business projects that seek to incorporate criteria of sustainability, efficiency, innovation, and responsible growth.
