The goal of Abogados IN DIEM has been to provide information about the situation currently unfolding in Coria del Río as a result of the toxic gases circulating through the sewer system.
These gases are affecting hundreds of families, yet the problem is not being addressed by the government or the relevant companies.
According to reports available from IN DIEM, the following components have been identified: toluene, hexane, n-heptane, n-octane, j-octane, phenol, dichloromethane, trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, and dimethylacetamide. The situation is alarming. We thank Telecinco and Cuatro for the commitment they have shown to all the affected residents.
We believe it is essential that the City Council, the companies involved, and the Regional Government of Andalusia address the situation in the most effective way possible—both from a public health perspective, by establishing an action plan to protect those affected with the help of a specialized interdisciplinary team, and by implementing preventive measures.
Furthermore, it is essential that all potential causes and sources of the gases be thoroughly investigated in order to put an end to the toxicity and its adverse health effects.
Abogados Coria del Río IN DIEM is actively working with residents on the Coria del Río City Council’s Public Safety Committee, in the administrative proceedings, before other authorities and public agencies, as well as through the established platform and other legal means of protection for those affected.
For us, Coria del Río and its residents are a priority. We are committed to Coria.
Toxic Spills, Gases, and Environmental Liability
Incidents involving toxic gases, spills, or environmental contamination require a coordinated response from technical, health, administrative, and legal perspectives.
When potentially hazardous substances are present in a sewer system, soil, water, or inhabited areas, it is essential to identify the source, determine the chemical composition, assess health risks, take preventive measures, and establish liability.
Spanish environmental regulations provide for mechanisms for prevention, remediation, and liability for environmental damage. Of particular relevance in this area are the Law 26/2007 on Environmental Liability, the Royal Decree 9/2005 , and Law 7/2022 on Waste and Contaminated Soil.
Legal representation for affected residents
In class-action cases such as the one in Coria del Río, legal defense requires organizing the available information, compiling reports, identifying the affected individuals, reviewing administrative records, and demanding responses from the relevant government agencies or entities.
Legal assistance also makes it possible to preserve evidence, request technical investigations, assess potential claims, coordinate class-action lawsuits, and protect the rights of the affected families.
When a legal issue drags on, it is especially important to avoid the fragmentation of information and to maintain a consistent legal strategy.
