IMPORTANT: This post analyzes the international legalization of documents in accordance with the administrative context in effect at the time of its publication. Currently, any legalization procedure—including the Hague Apostille, certified translations, signature authentication, and notarial, academic, commercial, or administrative documentation—must be reviewed in accordance with the destination country, the type of document, the applicable international conventions, and the current guidelines of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, consulates, and other competent authorities.
For documents to be used internationally, they must be legalized; that is, by submitting them to various agencies (Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consulates, etc.), the authenticity of the document and the signature on it are verified and certified so that it is valid in the destination country.
This matter, as the author points out, in the current climate where data on individuals and companies seeking their future outside our borders is overwhelming (it should be noted that youth emigration has increased by 41% since 2008 and exports now represent 34% of GDP, placing Spain second only to Germany), requires knowledge and use of all tools related to document legalization, in order to reduce temporal and economic costs in these processes.
Through this document, it defines the most common channels for the legalization of Spanish documents abroad and describes the mechanisms used by IN DIEM Abogados’ document legalization department.
